BJP unveils fresh Uttar Pradesh Rajya Sabha slate, omitting all incumbent MPs
The BJP announced eight new candidates for Uttar Pradesh's Rajya Sabha elections, leaving out every sitting MP, including ministers Hardeep Puri and B L Verma.
On Monday, the Bharatiya Janata Party released its roster of eight nominees for the biennial Rajya Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh scheduled for October 16. The slate discards every sitting MP, notably union ministers Hardeep Puri and B L Verma, who were not renominated. Among the candidates are former MP Priyanka Singh Rawat and Shruti Gangwar, providing two female faces, while Dharampal Singh, the state’s animal husbandry minister, represents the OBC community.
The list also includes bar council head Radhakant Ojja, and other OBC, SC, Brahmin and Thakur figures: Prakash Pal, Vidyasagar Sonkar, Gopi Krishna Pandey and Ram Pratap Singh Chauhan. With ten seats up, the BJP anticipates winning eight comfortably, and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath congratulated the nominees, calling the upcoming victory historic.
