Mayor of Grafing collapses and dies during council meeting

Christian Bauer, the 75-year-old mayor of Grafing near Munich, lost consciousness and died while chairing a building committee session.

Mayor Christian Bauer, aged 75, was presiding over a building committee meeting in Grafing when he abruptly lost consciousness without any obvious external cause. Committee members administered first aid while emergency responders arrived with a doctor, but attempts to revive him were unsuccessful. Firefighters decided to move him out of the town hall via a large window using a high-reach platform, and he was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital where resuscitation continued.

The town square was temporarily closed to expedite his transport. Bauer, who had recently recovered from pneumonia, had been re-elected earlier this year for a second term after 22 years as city finance manager. He is survived by his wife of more than 30 years and three children.
