Meerut court sentences wife and lover to death for husband’s murder staged as snakebite
A Meerut court sentenced Ravita and her partner Amardeep to death for killing Amit Kashyap and placing a live snake beside his body to fake a snakebite.
In Meerut, the Additional District and Sessions Judge Jaiveer Singh Nagar sentenced Ravita and her lover Amardeep to capital punishment for the killing of Amit Kashyap, also known as Mikky Kashyap, a resident of Akbarpur Sadat village. The body was discovered on a cot on April 13 last year with a live snake placed beside it, prompting the family to initially believe the death resulted from a snakebite. However, forensic examination revealed neck and nasal injuries consistent with strangulation.
The couple, who had been detained for 17 months, attended the hearing through video conferencing. Government counsel Farzana Masood, who prosecuted the case, condemned Ravita’s actions and ordered that the children’s education and welfare be secured with dignity.
Why it matters
The case underscores the severity of domestic homicide and the judicial system's response with the death penalty.
