Microsoft unveils new AI-driven features for Windows and Surface lineup

At a San Francisco event, Microsoft announced a suite of AI capabilities for Windows, including local-run Copilot actions and enhanced security for AI agents.

Microsoft’s Windows and Surface showcase in San Francisco featured CEO Satya Nadella, head of Windows and Devices Pavan Davuluri, and NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang. The firm emphasized a strategy to make Windows the most secure environment for AI agents, combining local execution with cloud resources. New Copilot functionality will allow users to authorize actions on their own files and launch a range of quick commands from the taskbar, mirroring capabilities seen in other operating systems.

The announcement builds on earlier initiatives like Project Solara and recent updates to the Copilot app. Starting this fall, users can expect thousands of shortcuts for tasks such as adjusting settings, capturing screenshots, and querying information.

Why it matters

The updates bring AI-powered automation to everyday Windows users, reshaping how PCs handle tasks and data security.
