Mujeres Caballas to march in Madrid demanding stronger security for Ceuta

The activist group Mujeres Caballas will hold a peaceful demonstration in Madrid on Sunday to highlight the ongoing Moroccan presence in Ceuta and call for increased military and police protection.

On Sunday, the citizen movement Mujeres Caballas will organize a peaceful rally in Madrid, beginning at the Emperador Carlos V roundabout at 10:30 and moving along Paseo del Prado, Neptuno, Carrera de San Jerónimo to the Plaza de los Cortes before reaching the Congress of Deputies. There, a manifesto outlining Ceuta’s demands will be read, emphasizing the need for a stronger military and police presence at the Spanish-European frontier.

Maxi Lacasa, the group’s spokesperson, said Morocco’s rearmament worries Ceutí residents who feel they are on the front line. She described the city as still overrun by thousands of migrants who have taken over streets and public spaces, disrupting local commerce and daily life. The protest also seeks to counter recent media narratives that downplay the severity of the situation and to reject any political attempts to block the demonstration. Organizers stress the march will be non-partisan, displaying Spanish, European and Ceuta flags while condemning hate messages.

Why it matters

The protest underscores growing security concerns at Spain’s only African border city amid a prolonged migrant influx.
