Najib Razak makes first public appearance after receiving conditional pardon

On a tightly guarded morning in Kuala Lumpur, former prime minister Najib Razak stepped out of Kajang Prison to attend a High Court hearing, marking his first public sighting since a conditional pardon was announced. Dressed in a light grey suit, he arrived at 8.30 a.m. accompanied by officers from the Prisons Department, some in tactical gear. The Federal Territories Pardons Board had earlier approved a conditional pardon that would let him serve the rest of his SRC International sentence under house arrest until August 23 2028, provided he fulfills stipulated conditions such as paying a RM50 million fine.

Until those conditions are satisfied, Najib remains an inmate, and his transfer to house arrest has not occurred. The hearing was overseen by Judge Noor Ruwena Md Nurdin.
