Nationwide protests scheduled after fatal racist shooting in Yvelines

Citizens and NGOs plan demonstrations across France on Monday to condemn the racist terror attack in the Yvelines that left one dead and several injured.

A racially motivated shooting in the Yvelines region on Friday resulted in the death of 26-year-old Pengo Bossio Wangi, a French-Congolese MMA prospect, and injured five others, among them a 12-year-old girl. The attacker, identified as 39-year-old Kevin T., fired from his vehicle in Trappes and La Verrière before being detained and later released for psychiatric evaluation. In response, a coalition of NGOs and trade unions—including the Ligue des droits de l'Homme, SOS Racisme, Mrap, ADDAM, Clara, Jalons pour la paix, FIDL, Unef, CGT, CFDT, FSU, Union syndicale Solidaires and Unsa—has announced nationwide gatherings on Monday at 19:00, with a central rally at Place Stalingrad in Paris and additional protests in cities such as Bordeaux, Saint-Étienne, Grenoble and Marseille.

Speakers plan to condemn the “banalisation de la haine raciste” and call for societal mobilization against racism and Islamophobia, which they say are being fueled by the far-right. President Macron described the incident as a planned terrorist act targeting people because of their skin colour or religion. Hundreds also gathered in Aubervilliers to pay tribute to the victim.

The attack underscores rising racially motivated violence in France and prompts a national call for solidarity against hate.
