Suspect in Limoges City Hall arson faces attempted murder charge
A man accused of igniting the Limoges City Hall fire has been indicted for attempted murder of municipal police officers.
On Friday, prosecutors placed two individuals arrested for the Limoges City Hall fire in preventive detention, following their indictment. The main suspect, Hodei C.-D., a 34-year-old construction worker flagged as a security risk for ties to radical environmentalism, was captured in Val d'Issoire earlier this week. Investigators say he threw a trash bin with flaming material through a ground-floor window, sparking a fire that spread upward and brought down the 43-meter bell tower.
In addition to charges of arson and criminal conspiracy, he now faces an attempted murder count for endangering 13 municipal police officers who sought refuge in the room where the blaze began. The indictment aligns with the Limoges prosecutor’s recommendation for preventive detention.
