Nearly Half of Voters Say Midterms Are a Vote Against Trump, Poll Shows

A poll of 1,000 registered voters taken Sept. 11-15 indicates that 43% plan to cast their midterm votes as a protest against Donald Trump, the strongest anti-Trump sentiment recorded by the outlet in thirty years. Only 27% say their vote will signal support for the president, and his approval rating stands at 41% with 56% disapproving. Voters also cite economic concerns and the ongoing Iran war, with 55% saying Trump’s policies have harmed the economy and 57% less likely to back candidates favoring the conflict.

Democrats hold a 50-45 edge on the generic congressional ballot, a narrower margin than in 2018. Republican pollster Bill McInturff says the GOP’s favorable Senate map could offset national headwinds. Prediction-market data on Kalshi shows a 58% chance of a Democratic sweep of both chambers.
