Netanyahu celebrates renewed Israel-Latin America relations at Colombia embassy opening

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised a resurgence of ties with Latin America during a reception marking Colombia's new embassy in Jerusalem.

At a reception hosted by Israel's Foreign Ministry, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu hailed a notable comeback of relationships between Israel and Latin American countries. He attributed the renewed bonds to mutual Judeo-Christian heritage and overlapping strategic goals, emphasizing future cooperation in fields such as security, agriculture, water resources and artificial intelligence. The ceremony celebrated Colombia's decision to open its embassy in Jerusalem, making it the tenth country to do so.

This move follows the restoration of diplomatic ties under President Abelardo de la Espriella, after former President Gustavo Petro cut relations in May 2024. Netanyahu expressed optimism about deepening ties and indicated an intention to revisit Colombia soon. The event underscores a broader trend of strengthening Israel's presence in the region.
