Netanyahu claims Iran seeks to sway Israel's upcoming election

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Iran and its proxies are trying to influence Israel's Knesset vote, and warned of a possible surprise attack.

Benjamin Netanyahu told Army Radio that Iran and its allied groups aim to undermine his party in next week’s Knesset election, describing the claim as intelligence rather than spin. He also noted that Israel is ready for a possible Iranian surprise attack. Defense Minister Israel Katz warned Hezbollah on X that any Iranian assault would be met with Israeli advances into the Nabatieh and Litani zones of southern Lebanon, with plans to evacuate residents and make the area a permanent security zone.

U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth made a secret trip to Israel, meeting Netanyahu and Katz at Ovda Airbase, while his office declined comment. Meanwhile, IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir ordered a vacation blackout for soldiers from Thursday to Tuesday to mitigate heightened threat levels surrounding the election.

The allegations raise regional security stakes ahead of Israel's election and could affect Israel-Iran tensions.
