New independent list VS21 tops Vsetín municipal vote, ousting long-time mayor
In Vsetín's municipal elections, incumbent mayor Jiří Čunek was defeated as the newcomer VS21 list secured the most votes.
Municipal elections in Vsetín saw the newly formed VS21 - Sdružení nezávislých kandidátů win a clear plurality, overtaking the traditional KDU-ČSL led by long-standing mayor Jiří Čunek, who announced he will not pursue any city-government position. VS21’s Martin Metelka, also director of local schools, described the outcome as evidence that voters want a new direction and pledged to build a governing coalition while ruling out talks with the communists.
He emphasized that VS21 intends to take the mayoral chair, warning that refusing would betray voters. The city council comprises 21 seats; previous election figures for ANO, KDU-ČSL and the Coalition for Open Vsetín are noted for context.
Why it matters
The result could reshape Vsetín's local governance and coalition dynamics.
