Newcastle revamps recruitment model under Jaissle, adds five signings amid sanctions

After a lackluster transfer period and a bruising league campaign, Newcastle United is overhauling its recruitment philosophy, turning to younger players from Europe and strengthening its analytics unit to comply with a restrictive UEFA financial settlement. The club reluctantly sold Sandro Tonali to Tottenham and Anthony Gordon to Barcelona, and saw captain Bruno Guimaraes move to Arsenal, while coveted prospects Victor Munoz and Johan Manzambi chose Liverpool and Aston Villa.

Ross Wilson said the aim is to create a competitive, self-sustaining model that avoids forced sales and further sanctions. New manager Matthias Jaissle, who previously nurtured talent at Red Bull Salzburg, will rely on his experience and overlaps with former boss Eddie Howe. Pre-season preparations accelerated when Jaissle arrived from Al-Ahli just before the Premier League opener, with performance director James Bunce likening the rush to speed dating. The first week ended positively with a 2-1 friendly win against Valencia at the Mestalla.
