Norway and Manchester City warn Haaland he needs a mid-season break
Norway coach Ståle Solbakken and Manchester City boss Enzo Maresca say Erling Braut Haaland must be rested sometime this season, preferably after the Nations League matches.
Ståle Solbakken travelled to Manchester to discuss Erling Braut Haaland’s workload with Manchester City’s newly appointed coach Enzo Maresca. Both managers stressed that the Norwegian forward, who began the season with a limited three-one outlet break, will need a rest period before the campaign ends. Maresca suggested the pause should come after City’s victory over Manchester United, while Solbakken wants to wait until Norway completes its Nations League group matches in November.
He noted that the national team will play four games in eleven days, a schedule that could further strain Haaland. The two coaches emphasized the importance of keeping the striker satisfied and healthy for the remainder of the season. Haaland’s next club match is against Sunderland at home on Sunday.
Why it matters
Haaland’s fitness affects both Manchester City’s title chase and Norway’s international performance.
