Norwegian to cut 125 jobs in Copenhagen, citing shift to Spanish staff

Airline Norwegian announced it will dismiss 125 employees in Copenhagen, including pilots and cabin crew, as it plans to replace them with workers from Spain.

Norwegian has issued termination notices to 125 staff members at its Copenhagen base, comprising 55 pilots and 70 cabin crew employees. The airline intends to fill most of the vacated roles with employees recruited from Spain. Thilde Waast, chair of the airline workers' union, described the plan as an effort to shift employment out of the Scandinavian region and called it inappropriate. The decision follows broader staffing adjustments within the carrier. No further details on timelines or compensation were provided.

Why it matters

The layoffs highlight shifting labor strategies in the European airline industry and raise concerns about job security for Scandinavian workers.
