ÖBB unveils expanded timetable with new IC routes, airport stops and cross-border services

The Austrian railway operator ÖBB will roll out a revised schedule on 13 December, adding Intercity trains between Graz and Linz, early-morning services to Klagenfurt and a stop at Graz Airport for the Graz-Maribor line.

Starting 13 December, ÖBB’s updated timetable will see eleven direct Intercity trains each direction between Graz and Linz, plus added Interregio services on the Koralmbahn, featuring a 4:48 a.m. departure to Klagenfurt. The Graz-Maribor line will now include a stop at Graz Airport, enhancing regional connectivity. Vienna’s network will gain faster links to Wolfsthal and additional services to Wiener Neustadt, Eisenstadt, Wulkaprodersdorf and the western suburbs.

Vorarlberg will obtain new direct cross-border connections to Switzerland and Germany, while ICE routes to Nürnberg, Frankfurt, Dortmund and Berlin resume after the Passau-Nürnberg line renovation, complemented by a night-ICE to Stuttgart and an extra ICE pair to Dortmund. The Frecciarossa high-speed train is slated to run through Austria from summer 2027, and two daily trains will link Vienna and Belgrade, pending Hungarian approval.

New rolling stock includes 27 Cityjet double-deckers, six Coradia Stream units for the Brenner corridor, ten Railjets and 14 Railjet double-deckers, part of a €6.1 billion investment through 2030. Major line closures at the German Eck and the Tauern route will require replacement services during February-July.

Why it matters

The timetable overhaul reshapes Austria's rail network, boosting regional travel options and cross-border connectivity.
