One Nation launches Victorian campaign with tough crime and bail proposals
One Nation’s Victorian leader Warren Pickering will open the state election campaign with new crime-focused policies, while anti-racist groups plan protests at the launch.
One Nation’s Victorian campaign will kick off with Warren Pickering presenting a range of crime-related policies at a launch in Melbourne’s Crown conference centre, where Pauline Hanson and more than 750 party supporters are expected to appear. The platform is set to feature tougher bail conditions, additional police officers on the streets, and the reopening of empty police stations. Anti-racist groups under the Unite Against Racism banner plan to demonstrate outside the venue and to hold a larger rally at the State Library later in October, accusing the party of racism.
A recent Mood of the Nation survey by SEC Newgate found that one-third of Victorians rank crime as a primary issue, and the Resolve Political Monitor shows One Nation at 23% support in the state. Pickering, who previously ran for office without success, emphasized a pragmatic, cost-effective approach to public safety. The launch marks his first major test after past admissions of drug use before joining the Australian Defence Force.
Why it matters
The policy launch highlights One Nation’s focus on crime ahead of the Victorian election, shaping voter debate and prompting public protests.
