One Nation to rent $8 million Brisbane office owned by mining magnate Gina Rinehart

One Nation will lease its national headquarters in a Brisbane building purchased by Gina Rinehart, with the party saying it will pay market rent.

Barnaby Joyce denied any personal ties influencing One Nation’s decision to occupy a new headquarters in a Brisbane office building acquired by mining billionaire Gina Rinehart’s company Hanrine for roughly $8 million. The three-storey property in Spring Hill will be leased at market rates, with the party’s expenses paid from its own budget. Hancock Prospecting, which owns the building, stated it provides no free or reduced-price space to any tenant, political or otherwise.

The arrangement follows earlier reports of One Nation officials staying at Rinehart’s $20 million Brisbane mansion and using her security personnel. Joyce also noted he has not spoken to Rinehart in six months. Critics have highlighted previous undisclosed gifts and flights linked to the party and Rinehart’s businesses.

Why it matters

The lease raises questions about political influence and transparency when a major party rents property from a powerful mining billionaire.
