One-time CZK 2,000 pension boost to arrive from March, not January
A proposed law would grant pensioners a one-off CZK 2,000 payment, likely payable starting in March, with most recipients receiving it automatically.
Minister Aleš Juchelka is advocating a one-time CZK 2,000 supplement for pensioners, arguing that regular pension adjustments are modest. Under one outlet draft, the lump-sum would be paid out beginning in March, with the majority of beneficiaries receiving it automatically with their monthly pension. Some retirees, such as those whose pension entitlement ends before the regular payment date, must apply in writing to claim the amount.
Eligibility is limited to recipients of old-age, disability or survivor pensions granted before the law takes effect, and each person can receive the payment only once, even if they draw multiple pensions. The measure has been recommended by the Social Committee of the Chamber of Deputies but still requires approval by the full chamber and further legislative steps before it can be enacted.
Why it matters
It determines when and how Czech pensioners will receive an extra financial boost this year.
