Opposition leaders denounce DPP policies and urge voter support ahead of local elections

KMT chair Cheng Li-wun and TPP chairman Huang Kuo-chang used National Day speeches to attack the DPP and call for voter backing and swift enactment of legislature-approved bills.

During National Day events, KMT chair Cheng Li-wun delivered remarks in Kaohsiung’s Guomao community, accusing the ruling DPP of heightening cross-strait tensions and undermining Taiwan’s democracy, while urging voters to back KMT tickets in Kaohsiung, Tainan and Pingtung County. She linked peace across the Taiwan Strait to democratic stability, called for the restart of nuclear power generation, and argued that economic growth should benefit traditional industries as well as high-tech.

The gathering featured KMT mayoral hopefuls Ko Chih-en, Hsieh Lung-chieh and Su Ching-chuan, along with former Legislative Speaker Wang Jin-pyng. In Taipei, TPP chairman Huang Kuo-chang, speaking before a group of eight TPP lawmakers, said President Lai Ching-te has no right to withhold promulgation of budgets and other bills that have passed the Legislative Yuan, accusing the administration of misleading the public about legislative delays.

Huang pledged TPP support for a public-benefit budget while rejecting corruption and waste, and urged Lai to honor his promise of 130,000 social-housing units and address soaring housing costs and inequality. The Cabinet has previously declined to countersign several opposition-backed laws, citing concerns over fiscal strain and potential political influence.
