Over 2,000 Gaza patients die while waiting for treatment and evacuation
More than 2,000 patients in the Gaza Strip have died awaiting medical care and evacuation as border crossings remain closed.
In Gaza, 2,027 patients have died while awaiting medical treatment and evacuation, according to Mohammed Abu Afash, director of medical relief in Gaza City. He reported that more than 21,000 patients require evacuation, yet no one has been able to leave the enclave via the Rafah crossing for five days. The closure of border points and delays in evacuations have aggravated illnesses such as cancer, kidney failure and heart disease.
Hospitals across the Strip face severe shortages of medicines, laboratory and radiology services, and operating rooms, limiting care for pregnant women and children as well. Gaza’s health authorities recorded three bodies and 17 wounded in the last 24 hours, bringing the post-ceasefire toll to 1,501 deaths and 5,323 injuries, while the overall death count since Oct 7 2023 stands at 74,392 with 175,440 wounded.
Why it matters
The deaths highlight a deepening humanitarian crisis as medical needs go unmet in Gaza.
