Paris confronts wave of shop looting as authorities struggle to contain unrest

A spate of looting hit Paris, targeting small shops, luxury stores and malls, while police forces were unable to stop all perpetrators.

For a second consecutive night, Paris was plagued by extensive looting that hit small businesses, luxury retailers and major shopping complexes. Despite the presence of CRS riot police, the authorities failed to detain all participants, prompting frustration among neighbourhood residents. In a related development, police detained a 34-year-old man at his parents' residence in Val-d’Issoire, a commune about fifty kilometres from Limoges.

His father, known for advocating civil disobedience, has previously been linked to a series of criminal arson incidents. The incidents have heightened public concern over public order and the effectiveness of security measures in the capital.
