Paris prepares extensive security for Pope Leon XIV's motorcade and open-air mass
Paris authorities have set up 23 security checkpoints and strict bag checks for the Pope's motorcade and the subsequent mass, urging early arrival.
Patrice Faure, the Paris police prefect, described the security arrangement for Pope Leon XIV's visit as a precise operation. Twenty-three checkpoints will screen attendees with visual inspections, bag searches and pat-downs from ten a.m. to eight p.m. The papamobile will cover a 2.5-kilometre stretch from Notre-Dame-des-Champs to Place Saint-Michel, while the mass will take place on the Champs-Élysées after the Pope descends the avenue.
Entry points for the motorcade open at twelve p.m., and those for the mass open at nine a.m., both closing before the events begin. Organizers advise spectators to arrive early, as each zone has a limited capacity and overflow crowds will be redirected. Volunteer and professional staff will guide participants to their assigned areas.
