Parliament mourns passing of former prime minister Mahathir's wife, Siti Hasmah
The Dewan Rakyat expressed sympathy for former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad after his wife, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali, died at age 100.
At the start of the fifth session of the 15th Parliament, Deputy Speaker Datuk Ramli Md Nor conveyed the Dewan Rakyat's condolences to former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his relatives following the death of his spouse, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali. Siti Hasmah, who reached 100 years of age, died at the National Heart Institute on September 28. Born on July 12, 1926, in Klang, Selangor, she was among Malaysia's earliest Malay women physicians and later contributed to public health and social initiatives.
She earned her medical degree from King Edward VII College of Medicine in Singapore in 1955. The parliamentary sitting is scheduled to run for 37 days, ending on December 8.
