Parliament to debate electricity tariffs, data centre value, haze and aviation safety

Today's Dewan Rakyat session will cover rising household electricity rates, the economic impact of data centre investments, haze-related health concerns, and questions on aviation safety after a recent helicopter crash.

The Dewan Rakyat agenda includes a series of inquiries from MPs on several pressing issues. Azli Yusof will question the Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister about the factors driving the increase in domestic electricity tariffs and the Energy Commission's assurance that about 85% of households will be insulated from the hike via an Energy Efficiency Incentive. Rodziah Ismail will ask the Health Ministry to outline measures to mitigate haze’s impact on public health, while Datuk Dr Richard Rapu @ Aman Begri will request the Transport Minister to detail recent safety audits by the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia after a helicopter crash in Long Lellang.

Additionally, Rodziah Ismail will probe the methodology for assessing the net value added by data centre investments approved since 2021, and other members will raise topics ranging from Formula 1 event assessments to synthetic drug misuse in Sarawak. The sitting will conclude with the first reading of the Adoption (Amendment) Bill 2026 and continue debates on the Supply Bill (Budget) 2027.

Why it matters

The debates will shape policies affecting electricity costs, digital infrastructure, public health and aviation safety for Malaysians.
