Parliament to hold emergency session on chief prosecutor and immunity cases
An extraordinary parliamentary meeting has been called to vote on the appointment of a new chief prosecutor and to consider immunity requests for several officials.
Andrea Bujdosó, leader of the Tisza Párt faction, submitted a motion for an extraordinary parliamentary sitting to consider several urgent personnel matters. Lawmakers will vote on the nomination of Zoltán Szathmáry for chief prosecutor, a suggestion put forward by András Baka, who highlighted Szathmáry's prior roles in the Prosecutor General's IT department and as deputy chief prosecutor in the capital's appellate office.
The session will also examine immunity requests for Peter Magyar, Balázs Hankó, Miklós Seszták and Mária Gurzó, as the prosecutor's office seeks to lift their protections to allow questioning. The agenda cites the need to resolve issues that cannot be delayed, and the prosecutor's office has already announced its intent to move forward with the immunity reviews.
