PAS leader dismisses Umno call for early Terengganu election, urges national vote

PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man rejected Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan's suggestion to hold a snap state election in Terengganu as a test of PAS's commitment to Malay political cooperation. He emphasized that without an urgent reason, voters should not be subjected to the pressure and expense of an early poll. Tuan Ibrahim proposed that a dissolution of Parliament and a new national election would be a more appropriate way to gauge public support.

The party's election machinery, under the Perikatan Nasional coalition, has been instructed to prepare for any outcome. Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil cautioned Umno leaders, especially President Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, to avoid emotional decisions and to put Malaysia's interests first, citing Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's recent remarks. Fahmi expressed confidence that one outlet administration will remain stable through the end of its term.
