PCM urges RM15 million allocation in Budget 2027 for para-sports growth

The Paralympic Council of Malaysia is asking the government to set aside RM15 million in the 2027 budget to develop para sports and support associations without facilities.

At a ceremony in the Paralympic Excellence Centre in Kampung Pandan, PCM president Megat D. Shahriman Zaharudin appealed for a RM15 million allocation in the upcoming Budget 2027 to boost para-sports development. He explained the sum would fund grassroots talent identification and maintain operations for associations that do not have dedicated offices. PCM had submitted a similar request earlier and is urging the government to revisit it for systematic, sustainable growth.

In addition, PCM and health-care firm Zero Healthcare introduced prize vouchers of RM2,000 for gold and silver medalists and RM1,000 for bronze winners. Chef de mission Tan Chee Keong said Malaysia aims for six gold medals at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Para Games. The council emphasized its accountability and readiness to manage the additional resources effectively.
