Perak launches disaster control centre as floods hit multiple districts

The Perak state government activated its State Disaster Control Centre after floods and storms affected several districts, and mobilised thousands of personnel and rescue assets.

Severe storms and flooding across Larut, Matang and Selama, Manjung and additional districts prompted the Perak government to trigger its State Disaster Control Centre, said Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad. The centre is tasked with tracking disaster progress and orchestrating the efforts of relevant agencies, with 24-hour operation slated for incidents affecting more than three districts. In preparation, the State Disaster Management Committee has organised a workforce of 6,283 personnel drawn from multiple agencies, supported by 204 rescue boats and 439 four-wheel-drive vehicles to ensure swift deployment.

The announcement came during a media briefing at the Perak State Government Meet The Clients Day (HBP) MESRA Programme in Tanjung Malim. Saarani also reported that 120 complaints were lodged during one outlet's programme, adding to a cumulative total of 1,306 complaints recorded to date, of which 1,064 have been resolved.

Why it matters

The activation shows Perak's readiness to coordinate emergency response and protect residents amid worsening weather.
