Perak officials say media faces tougher pressure to report quickly yet accurately
Sandrea Ng Shy Ching said journalists are the state’s “eyes and ears” but now must deliver faster reports without losing accuracy, while also simplifying complex issues for a public that prefers brief information.
During the Jom Mancing: YB Sandrea Bersama Media 2026 programme in Ipoh, Sandrea Ng Shy Ching, chair of the State Housing and Local Government Committee, described the media as the “eyes and ears” of the Perak state government, vital for surfacing issues that need prompt action. She highlighted that journalists are under increasing pressure to file stories quickly without sacrificing factual correctness, and to distill complex policy matters into clear, brief formats that suit a public favoring short-form information.
Sandrea warned that viral headlines or images can shape perception without reflecting full realities. She praised the media’s role in identifying everyday concerns such as waste collection, clogged drains, street-light failures, and housing problems. The event featured media personnel from outlets like one outlet, Utusan, Harian Metro and RTM, as well as Perak Media Practitioners Association chairman Sayed Mohd Hisham Syed Idris, underscoring the need for continued cooperation between the government and press.
