PN weighs ministerial appeal as legal fight over deregistration continues
PN secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said the coalition may appeal to the home minister under the Societies Act while also pursuing court action after the Registrar of Societies deregistered it.
The Registrar of Societies announced PN’s deregistration after the coalition failed to justify keeping its status in response to a show-cause notice. The High Court permitted PN to seek judicial review of two notices but refused to halt the suspension of its activities. At a parliamentary press briefing, Takiyuddin Hassan said the coalition is exploring all options, including an appeal to the home minister within the 30-day window provided by the Societies Act 1966, as well as further court actions.
He indicated that PN may still field candidates in the November 14 Melaka elections under one of its component parties, though a definitive plan has not yet been set. Hassan argued that the deregistration effectively removes a voting choice for Melaka’s electorate.
