PNL leader says party will meet designated premier to secure a reform-focused government

Ilie Bolojan, who heads Romania’s National Liberal Party (PNL), told reporters on Thursday that the party plans to discuss the formation of a new cabinet with the prime minister who has been nominated. The statement followed a meeting with President Nicușor Dan at the Cotroceni Palace. Bolojan said the PNL will only back a government that offers a credible reform programme and a team of competent ministers.

He highlighted the importance of maintaining control over public finances, cutting state expenditures, and putting the state at the service of citizens to jump-start the economy. Should the proposed programme and cabinet satisfy these criteria, the PNL will look for a formula to have the government installed and preserve Romania’s credibility. The party’s stance underscores the push for a stable, reform-oriented administration after a period of provisional rule.
