USR leader says party ready to govern and proposes multiple cabinet options
Dominic Fritz told President Nicușor Dan that USR is prepared to take part in government and offered several prime-minister scenarios.
Dominic Fritz announced to President Nicușor Dan that USR is ready to govern and is seeking a role in the next administration. He presented three possible arrangements: a premier Siegfried Mureșan backed by PNL, USR and UDMR; two consecutive minority governments, the first formed by right-wing parties and the second by PSD, both led by a president-chosen prime minister acceptable to all parliamentary forces; and a willingness to discuss any alternative presidential nominee if the first two proposals are declined.
Fritz emphasized that without a solution, the authority must revert to citizens through new elections. When asked about supporting a technocratic cabinet, he said USR has not made a formal decision and awaits the premier’s nomination, but it cannot accept a government dominated by PSD and AUR that would constantly oppose a technocratic administration.
Why it matters
The stance of USR could shape Romania's next coalition and affect the balance of power in parliament.
