PNL to decide on supporting Prime Minister-designate Luca Niculescu pending program approval
The National Liberal Party said it will discuss the new prime-minister-designate Luca Niculescu’s agenda and will back his investiture only if it accepts his proposed governing programme.
The National Liberal Party (PNL) confirmed it will hold talks with Luca Niculescu, the president’s nominee for prime minister, to examine his governing programme, priorities and proposed team. Following this analysis, PNL will determine its vote on the investiture, stating support is conditional on alignment with Niculescu’s agenda. Spokesperson Ionel Bogdan reiterated the party’s commitment to this process.
Meanwhile, PNL leader Ilie Bolojan, after consultations with President Nicușor Dan, ruled out any coalition with the Social Democratic Party (PSD), indicating the party will move to opposition if PSD participates in the next cabinet. Niculescu is the fourth candidate proposed by the president after previous attempts with Eugen Tomac, Adrian Veștea and Siegfried Mureșan failed to secure a governing majority.
Why it matters
PNL's stance will shape Romania's next government and its policy direction.
