Poggi family declines to join civil suit against Andrea Sempio in upcoming hearing

The Poggi relatives said they will not become civil parties against Andrea Sempio as the preliminary hearing approaches, citing his presumed innocence.

At a recent pre-trial hearing, the Poggi family’s legal team, led by Francesco Compagna and Gianluigi Tizzoni, stated they will not register as civil parties against Andrea Sempio. Their refusal is based on the belief that Sempio is innocent, making any monetary claim illogical. The attorneys clarified that the family will instead participate in any future revision proceedings that could affect the definitive conviction of Stasi for the killing of Chiara Poggi.

They emphasized that while Stasi’s sentence is still in force, pursuing a civil suit against Sempio would amount to seeking double compensation for the same offense. The Prosecutor’s Office in Pavia is expected to request that Sempio be brought to trial in the new investigation into the Garlasco murder. The family’s stance reflects a strategic focus on the existing conviction rather than opening a new civil claim.
