Police and protesters suffer dozens of injuries during October 24 demonstrations
The interior minister said hundreds of police officers and over a hundred demonstrators were injured in clashes on October 24, with several serious wounds reported.
On October 24, France saw large-scale protests over the cost of living that the interior minister described as "controlled" but marked by a high level of violence against police. He announced that 267 police officers and 150 demonstrators were injured, including three serious cases in Toulouse, Reims and Clermont-Ferrand. Additional injuries were reported in Poitiers, where a protester was hit in the eye, and in other cities where clashes broke out at the end of the marches.
The CGT claimed that 800,000 people took part across the country, with 250,000 in Paris, while the ministry reported 410,000 participants. Authorities also said they made numerous arrests and seized weapons such as knives and pétanque balls. The minister warned that the upcoming October 31 protest, dubbed "act III," could be even more challenging for police.
