Police Block Ultra-Right March Toward Sol Amid Housing Protest in Madrid

Around 400 demonstrators gathered near the Banco de España after a last-minute venue change, while police cordoned off the route to the Puerta del Sol camp.

On Saturday evening, the Indignados por España platform organized a rally against the encampment at Puerta del Sol, demanding a national social-housing plan. Approximately 400 people, primarily young men, gathered near the Banco de España after the organizers moved the location from Calle Alcalá 21. Police set up a strong cordon with roughly 500 officers from the Unidades de Intervención Policial, blocking the marchers from advancing toward Sol.

Ultra-right groups including Núcleo Nacional and Democracia Nacional participated, raising flags and chanting slogans such as "Viva España" and calls for national sovereignty. Simultaneously, antifascist groups like Madrid Antifascista assembled at Sol to defend the camp, chanting counter-slogans. Police used rubber bullets against a fringe of the far-right crowd attempting to reach Sol, and three protesters were detained on Calle Montera while trying to join the encampment.
