Police find elderly man's corpse hidden under blanket in Barcelona home

Neighbors in the Can Formiga urbanisation of Cabrera d’Anoia alerted emergency services about a seemingly vacant house, prompting the Mossos d’Esquadra to investigate. When officers entered, they found a 59-year-old woman and her 22-year-old daughter living in the property, which was cluttered with rubbish, overgrown foliage, and an untouched car. The women disclosed that the 77-year-old husband had died on the sofa in 2024, after which they covered the body with a blanket and relocated it to another room.

They also said they had remained inside the house throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, ordering all necessities online. Investigators recovered the man's remains, confirming he had been dead for at least two years, but found no evidence of foul play. Both women were taken to hospital for medical examinations and psychological support while the police continue their inquiry.
