Police officer seriously wounded by suspect wielding parang during Kelantan drug raid

A police corporal was seriously injured after a suspect slashed him with a parang during an anti-drug operation in Kampung Lalang Pepuyu, Kelantan, and was hospitalized at Tanah Merah.

A coordinated anti-drug raid in Kampung Lalang Pepuyu, Kelantan, involving the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department and officers from Bukit Bunga and Lalang Pepuyu police stations, resulted in a violent confrontation. A local man in his 30s, upon spotting the police, tried to escape and swung a 35 cm parang at the officers, seriously injuring a 37-year-old police corporal whose left hand was fractured. The officer was rushed to Hospital Tanah Merah for treatment.

Police seized the parang, about 0.1 g of suspected yaba tablets and a bottle of liquid believed to be ketum juice, and arrested the suspect, who has six previous drug offences. Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said the case will be pursued under Sections 307 and 324 of the Penal Code, Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952. The raid was part of Ops Tapis Bersepadu Sempadan, an integrated effort to curb drug trafficking along the Malaysia-Thailand border.
