Police relocate migrants to new shelter as makeshift camps grow on Ceuta beach

More than a month after an influx of nearly 80,000 migrants overwhelmed Ceuta, police this Sunday escorted a group to a temporary reception site near the former Los Rosales prison, which can accommodate up to 864 individuals. The city still has 4,300 authorized places for migrants, but many are sleeping on the sand. On the adjacent Benítez beach, roughly 100 makeshift huts have been constructed, sheltering thousands in cramped, unsanitary conditions.

The Red Cross distributes food twice daily and offers minimal shower facilities. Two migrants, Mustafa and Haida, told reporters they do not plan to return to Morocco and hope to cross to the Spanish mainland. The operation was coordinated by Elma Saiz and Ángel Víctor Torres, with the Ministry of Inclusion describing it as a humanitarian effort.
