Police separate Fidesz supporters and counter-protesters at Budapest’s Bem József Square

A clash between Fidesz sympathisers and counter-protesters erupted during a commemoration at Bem József tér, prompting police to intervene and escort the opposition group to a nearby street.

At a Fidesz-hosted ceremony in Budapest’s Bem József tér, a verbal confrontation broke out between party loyalists and a group of counter-protesters. The opposition contingent, headed by Bede Zsolt, was subsequently guided by police officers to the adjacent Ganz utca, where authorities tried to maintain separation between the factions. While the police worked to de-escalate the situation, members of one outlet crew were approached by the crowd.

Kindlovits Máté, who serves as personal secretary to Kubatov Gábor, spoke to the journalists, telling them to move back toward the square. The police action succeeded in dispersing the immediate turmoil, allowing the Fidesz supporters to resume their march toward Bem József tér.
