Police union blames Madrid government delegate for endangering officers at Ayuso protest

The police union JUPOL accused the Government Delegate in Madrid, Francisco Martín, of negligence that put officers at risk during a protest against Isabel Díaz Ayuso and a cancelled event for Education Minister Mercedes Zarzalejo.

JUPOL, a major police union, criticised the Madrid Government Delegation for failing to anticipate security needs at two recent public appearances. When President Isabel Díaz Ayuso arrived at the Palacio de Santoña, protesters gathered and police officers were forced to hold the official for more than half an hour while awaiting additional forces. A later event featuring Education Minister Mercedes Zarzalejo was aborted because adequate protection could not be ensured.

The union alleges that the delegate, Francisco Martín, acted negligently, leaving officers to improvise under deteriorating conditions. JUPOL also claims police commanders lacked sufficient information and clear orders to assess risks beforehand. The dispute follows earlier tension after Martín publicly denounced the university police unit at the Complutense University of Madrid, prompting the union to demand his resignation.
