Polish defence deputy warns of Russian escalation and calls for US base plans

Deputy Defence Minister Cezary Tomczyk addressed the Sejm, relaying intelligence that Russia may soon step up hostile activities such as diversion operations, missile and drone launches over Poland, and contract killings of senior defence-industry and state officials. He warned that both Polish and allied services have been alert for months about a potential escalation, describing the coming months as “difficult” for Poland and “critical” for Ukraine as Russia seeks to use autumn and winter to suppress Ukrainian resistance and halt military aid.

Tomczyk urged the government to consider the “worst-case scenario” and to maintain a high level of preparedness for any breach. He also highlighted the strategic value of Karol Nawrocki’s personal relationship with former US President Donald Trump, saying the Polish government supports those ties. Finally, Tomczyk said that Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s signature is essential to start planning for possible US base installations in Poland.
