Poll finds roughly seven-in-ten Albertans favor remaining in Canada

Ipsos surveyed 1,500 Canadian adults, including 600 Albertans, between Sept. 18 and 22 to gauge sentiment ahead of the Oct. 19 referendum. Seven-in-ten Albertans say they will vote to remain a province of Canada, a marginal two-point decline from a May-June poll. Support for a binding independence referendum sits at about 20%, strongest among men (25%), Gen Z (28%) and those living outside the two largest cities.

Gregory Jack noted that rural, older and male voters tend to favor separation, while younger, urban voters lean toward staying. Voter turnout is expected to be crucial, with the “yes” camp appearing more eager to cast ballots. A large majority (76%) know the referendum contains ten questions, and 62% plan to answer every one.
