Power crews keep restoring electricity after Storm Boelo as fresh wind alerts loom

Engineers worked on Monday to re-energise homes and businesses still without power after Storm Boelo, while new yellow wind warnings were issued for parts of Ireland and Northern Ireland.

The Atlantic-borne Storm Boelo caused widespread power cuts, affecting roughly 41,000 premises in the Republic of Ireland and 12,500 customers in Northern Ireland. Engineers from ESB Networks continued repairs on Monday, focusing on the north-west where electricity was still out for homes, farms and businesses. In contrast, NIE Networks announced that all customers in the north of Northern Ireland had their supply restored.

The unsettled weather persisted, prompting Met Éireann to issue a yellow wind warning for eleven Irish counties and the Met Office to do the same for Antrim and Down. Authorities also prepared flood defences, with Dublin City Council staff sealing gaps on the Clontarf Promenade and installing barriers at Sandymount to guard against overtopping waves.

Why it matters

Restoring power and preparing flood defences are essential to protect communities from ongoing storm impacts.
