Prime Minister Anwar stresses constitutional limits on meddling with Malaysia's monarchy

During the broadcast of "Sebarkan Salam dan Pendang Berselawat Bersama Anwar Ibrahim," the prime minister asserted he will not involve himself in disputes over a Malaysian ruler's position, emphasizing that any action must be grounded in constitutional provisions. He explained that the constitutional monarchy framework requires any change to a king's status to follow legally defined procedures, not arbitrary decisions.

Anwar warned that easy removal of a ruler would threaten the monarchy's survival and destabilize the nation, adding that Malays, as well as Chinese and Indian communities, oppose challenges to the system. He reminded that the prime minister's executive authority is bounded by the constitution, which safeguards issues such as Islam, the Malay language, and Malay rights from unilateral alteration. The prime minister called for respectful dialogue and cautioned against politicising the royal institution.
