Queen postpones Johor Family Day Carnival amid worsening haze
Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah ordered the Sep 16 Johor Family Day Carnival to be delayed because of deteriorating haze and unsafe air quality.
Raja Zarith Sofiah instructed that the Johor Family Day Carnival scheduled for Sep 16 be postponed due to the worsening haze in the state. The event, organized by the Johor state government together with Yayasan Raja Zarith Sofiah Negeri Johor, was meant to create festive memories alongside Malaysia Day. She urged the public, especially the elderly, children and people with breathing problems, to adopt safety measures.
Air Pollutant Index levels recorded unhealthy values, with Pasir Gudang at 162 and Larkin at 159. The queen expressed hope that the carnival will be held once air quality returns to a safe level, saying “Insya-Allah” it will resume when conditions improve.
Why it matters
The delay underscores public health risks from severe haze and affects community celebrations in Johor.
