Ravindra Jadeja marks 50th WTC appearance as India clinches series lead in Colombo
Ravindra Jadeja became the first Indian to feature in 50 World Test Championship matches during the second Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo.
In the final Test of the series at Colombo’s Sinhalese Sports Club, Ravindra Jadeja entered the record books as the first Indian cricketer to appear in 50 World Test Championship matches. The 37-year-old all-rounder from Jamnagar achieved the milestone while India made a single change to its XI, handing debut cap to off-spinner Saransh Jain in place of Kuldeep Yadav, sidelined by an infection. Jadeja presented the debut cap to Jain during the pre-match huddle.
India won the toss for the second straight match, elected to bat first and now lead the two-match series 1-0, having beaten Sri Lanka by 165 runs in Galle. The Indian lineup featured Shubman Gill as captain, with contributions from Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Devdutt Padikkal, Rishabh Pant, Dhruv Jurel, Manav Suthar, Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna. Sri Lanka’s side included captain Dhananjaya de Silva and wicket-keeper Niroshan Dickwella among others.
Why it matters
Jadeja's record highlights India's growing presence in the World Test Championship and marks a historic individual achievement.
