Remco Evenepoel clinches European cycling crown in a photo-finish sprint

Belgian rider Remco Evenepoel won the European road race title after edging Italy's Giulio Ciccone in a two-man sprint at Sencur, Slovenia.

In a dramatic finale at Sencur, Slovenia, Remco Evenepoel became the new European road race champion, prevailing over Italy's Giulio Ciccone in a sprint decided by a photo-finish. The 26-year-old Belgian, already a world champion from 2022, endured a turbulent race that saw him fall with 36 kilometres to go before recovering to contest the finish. The course, laid out on routes associated with Tadej Pogacar, was run without the Slovenian star.

After crossing the line, Evenepoel waited for the official announcement before celebrating his victory. Italian rider Christian Scaroni rounded out the podium in third place.
