Republicans cite new poll showing strong disapproval of Democratic Socialists ahead of midterms

A fresh national survey shows 55% of registered voters hold an unfavorable opinion of the Democratic Socialists of America, with just three in ten offering a positive view. Republicans are leveraging these numbers to portray the upcoming congressional races as a choice between common-sense candidates and radical leftists. Donald Trump, speaking at a GOP midterm convention, claimed the Democratic Party is being overtaken by communists, and House Speaker Mike Johnson echoed the sentiment, describing the election as a contrast between sensible and crazy options.

Veteran strategist Erin Maguire said the poll validates the GOP’s strategy to cast Democrats as moving too far left. Democratic National Committee deputy Kendall Witmer countered that voters will decide based on inflation and cost-of-living concerns. Moderate Democrats, including Ty Strong of the Moderate PAC, warned the Republican focus on the DSA could dampen their electoral prospects, while progressive adviser Shannon Jackson dismissed the GOP’s tactics as ineffective.
